WATCH | Mumbai City FC’s Bipin Singh Scores 1st Hat-trick of ISL 2020-21

Bipin Singh stamped his authority on Mumbai City FC‘s Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21 match against Odisha FC at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim on Wednesday with a hat-trick. Bipin scored once in the first half and twice in the second to register his first ISL hat-trick and the first of the ongoing season as well. A lot of players have scored braces in matches this season but none could break the barrier and find the back of the net thrice but Bipin did it on Wednesday. His goals came in the 38th, 47th and 86th minutes of the game.

Bipin Singh has been a revelation for Mumbai City FC this season and has shown his value time and again. He has been a regular assist-marker and now, has the only hat-trick of the season to his name as well.

Apart from Bipin’s hat-trick, Bartholomew Ogbeche got a brace and Cy Goddard scored a belter to help Mumbai City FC register their biggest win of the season by crushing Odisha FC 6-1.

How Bipin Scored His Goals

38′ | Goddard played a lovely ball from the right for Ogbeche, who took a fabulous first touch to control it and turned around to take a shot on goal. The ball deflected off Vinit Rai into the middle and Bipin was the quickest to react and slotted the ball home.

47′ | Bipin received a ball from Ogbeche on the left of the post and he took a touch or two to control and set himself. He took the shot at goal from his right foot and Odisha’s goalkeeper Arshdeep let it sneak from underneath him.

86′ | The goal came just two minutes after Ahmed Jahouh stood on the penalty instead of Bipin, who was on a hat-trick, and had his effort saved by Arshdeep. Rowllin Borges’ shot on target was saved by Arshdeep but Bipin was at the correct place on the right of the post to bang in the rebound and get his hat-trick.

Odisha FC had come into the match knowing that they are surely going to finish the season at the bottom of the points table. However, they showed the zeal initially, mostly thanks to their season’s bright spark Jerry Mawihmingthanga. Jerry earned a penalty early on and Diego Mauricio was lucky to score from the spot as his poorly-taken kick bounced off Amrinder knee and went into the back of the net.

However, going down by a goal was the shot on the arm that Mumbai City FC needed and there on, they went on a rampage and decimated Odisha FC. Odisha hardly had the ball or any real chance while Mumbai launched attack after attack and reaped benefits off it. Of course, poor defending from Odisha, who were without their captain Steven Taylor, helped as well.

With the win, Mumbai got the crucial three points they needed to take the battle for the ISL shield (top spot in the table at the end of the league stage) and Asian Champions League 2022 spot to the final day.

On Sunday, Mumbai City FC will play table-toppers ATK Mohun Bagan and need a win to finish on top of the table. Anything less than that and ATK Mohun Bagan will be the ones celebrating.
