The suspect was arrested on bail, the judge said !

A man accused of shooting dead 10 people at a Colorado store facing a judge Thursday morning when he appeared for the first time in public since a mass shooting in Boulder.

Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 21, was wearing a purple and white mask and sat in a wheelchair during a three-minute hearing before Judge Thomas Mulvahill, about three days after the massacre at King Soopers restaurant.

“Ours is that we can do nothing until we can completely resolve Mr. Alissa’s mental illness,” defense lawyer Kathryn Herold told the court.

Boulder regional attorney Michael Dougherty told the court that Alissa could be charged with another crime in the next two weeks.

The prosecutor also said that investigators had been working at the crime scene since Thursday and that his office had not received any reports from police that they could share lawyers.

Mulvahill ordered Alissa to be arrested without bail and said her next hearing would be held within 60 days.

The last time the public watched Alissa was on Monday afternoon outside the market, when a news video showed police escorting a man handcuffed, his right leg covered in blood. He was not wearing a shirt or shoes.

While authorities refused to fully associate the images with Alissa, an affidavit of the detainee described how the suspect had surrendered to the SWAT team. That description matches what was in the video.

Boulder police officer Eric Talley, 51, was shot dead while responding to reports of a shooting. President Joe Biden has praised the slain officer, the father of seven children, “as an expression of American heroism.”

Alissa is also accused of killing Denny Stong, 20; Neven Stanisic, 23; Rikki Olds, 25; Tralona Bartkowiak, 49; Suzanne Fountain, 59; Teri Leiker, 51; Kevin Mahoney, 61; Lynn Murray, 62; and Jody Waters, 65.

Colorado residents have become accustomed to mass shootings, as two genocides in this generation took place shortly after Boulder.

King Soopers is about 35 miles [35 km] north of Columbine High School in Littleton, where 13 people were killed on April 20, 1999, before the two men had guns and killed themselves.

The gunmen opened fire on moviegoers at the Century 16 Theater in Aurora, 35 miles [35 km] southeast of the store, on July 20, 2012. Twelve people, gathered to watch “The Dark Knight Rises,” were killed.
