The National VideoGame Museum Seeking Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2020 Stories

The National Videogame Museum is seeking submissions from players of their Animal Crossing: New Horizons stories. The submissions will be part of “The Animal Crossing Diaries” project.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released in March 2020, during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many countries were closed to visitors, businesses were restricting access, and many were forced to stay home from work or school.

For some, Animal Crossing: New Horizons provided a getaway for players who wanted to connect with others from a beloved franchise virtually. The National VideoGame Museum wants to record the diverse ways that players have been enjoying the game.

The experiences include everyday moments where a calm moment is needed, connecting with friends virtually, or celebrating special events from the safety of home. The project plans to archive and analyze the submitted memories experienced through Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Players interested in sharing their stories can access the submission form on the National VideoGame Museum website.

The museum is welcoming a wide variety of submissions. They include diary entries about the game, a personal experience about playing the game, a video tour of the island or screenshots, commentary about events that have been held on the island, or a phone-recorded video talking about playing the game.

Players can also submit comic strips or other artwork showing something that happened on their island. The artwork must be the player’s own work and not taken from another artist. Players can also submit copies or screenshots of their Animal Crossing group chat but must have all participants’ permission.

These are only a few examples of the content that players can submit. If players want to submit a more complex story, they can contact the museum through email.

On the form page, players will need to agree to deposit conditions before submitting their files. From there, they will need to fill out the form with their name, email address, and a file. Only one file is accepted at one time. Players can submit a zipped file with their story plus related images.

For many, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has served as a way to connect with others. Even businesses have created custom artwork, clothing designs, or islands to connect with customers and fans.

It’s unknown how long the National VideoGame Museum will accept entries for the project. Those who want to share their stories should submit their files as soon as possible.
